Students in this 30 minute class practice musical theater jazz - a style of dancing that incorporates acting. This style is all about giving a performance. During class students practice typical jazz steps and tricks across the floor, but with a theater twist, potentially including lip-syncing and facials. In their recital dance students take on a character and tell a story. Though this class is based around jazz movement, and therefore is ballet-based in technique, students love that they get to loosen up a little and take on a new persona. Though it’s not required, we suggest that students that take musical theater also take a ballet combo class.

This class is $520 for the year (or $65 per month for 8 months), or offered at a discount if your student takes more than one class each week! This price includes weekly rehearsals from September-May and one recital costume. Tuition details can be found on our tuition page.

*Age/Experience: Students in this class are 16+ and are in currently enrolled in our Senior Line, or Teen Level classes or have 3+ years of prior jazz and/or musical theater dance experience.

*Dress code: Half of your body must be in traditional fitted dancewear (i.e. a tank top and dance shorts, or a leotard and leggings). Fitted two-piece outfits are also allowed. Baggy clothing prevents students and their instructors from seeing if steps and positions are being executed correctly. Hair must be pulled up in a ponytail, braid or bun.

Adding a class online will reserve a spot in your selected day/time for $15. After you finish the checkout process, you’ll receive a confirmation email followed by your invoice for the season. Unless we receive written notice, your dancer is committed to our full school year session ending with our annual recital mid-May.
